High Sierra Wilderness Fitness
Our main focus at High Sierra Wilderness Fitness is to help stem the alarming increase in the incidence of diabetes among children and adults, by giving them a chance to loose 30 pounds in 30 days, hopefully breaking bad eating habits, and learning an appreciation for the benefits of physical exercise.

But aside diabetes, there are numerous other advantages to loosing weight and getting in shape.  And the list seems to get longer each day as our media reports some new dire consequence of being overweight.

This weight loss is achieved the old fashioned way by reducing what you eat and increasing your caloric expenditures!

The conditioning you will experience is also done the old fashioned way by using your body walking and swimming.

This weight loss and conditioning is not achieved by slick TV marketing, fraudulent ads, or some quick and easy "miracle" pill, diet, or device.

Several years ago, after a 30 day backpacking trip, Purple Hat, your guide to, learned that he had lost 1# a day while on the trip, and had come out of the mountains very fit!

After thinking about it, Purple Hat realized that it was simply a function of calories in vs. calories out.  Purple Hat's strategy is very simple:  if you want to loose weight, eat fewer calories than you burn, forcing your body to start burning the fat stored on your body.  And at the same time, the daily walking with a pack, alot of it uphill, and the lake swimming, brought about a toning and strengthing of the body.

After several years of testing and refining his strategy, Purple Hat has now formed High Sierra Wilderness Fitness, to take a few individuals into the Sierras with him to loose weight and get in shape, by backpacking in California's most spectacular mountain range, the Sierra Nevada mountains, from Happy Isles in Yosemite Valley 211 miles to Mt. Whitney via the incredible John Muir Trail!

But there is something more to this than just loosing weight and getting in shape.  You will travel through some of the most beautiful areas on the earth, seeing things you've never seen before, experiencing things you've never experienced before, and come out of the mountains with a different perspective!
